and Renouncing Satan and his Evil

Priest: Makes the Orthodox Sign of the Cross, while saying, "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen."

People: Make the Orthodox Sign of the Cross, while saying, "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen."

The Priest faces East, and the People being baptized or renewing their Baptismal Vows face West.


(The Priest asks the following question three times, and the People answer three times)
Priest:  "Do you renounce Satan
            and all his worship
            and all his works
            and all his service
            and all his pride
            and all his angels?"


People:  "I do."

(The Priest asks the following question three times, and the People answer three times)

Priest: "Have you renounced Satan?"

People:  "I have."

(The Priest states the following three times, and after each time the people breath and spit)

Priest: "Breathe, and spit upon him."

People: Spit

Then the Priest faces West, and the People being baptized or renewing their Baptismal Vows face East. The People are facing an Icon of our Lord Jesus Christ, on the right.

(The Priest asks the following question three times, and the People answer three times)

Priest:  Do you Unite yourself unto Christ?

People:  I do.

(The Priest asks the following question three times, and after each time the people answer)

Priest: "Do you believe in Him?"

People: "I believe in Him as King and as God."

(The Priest says the following to the People three times.)

Priest:  "Then Bow Before Him."

People:  Bow down before the Icon of our Lord Jesus Christ[1], and worship God, the Holy Trinity

Priest:  Makes the Orthodox Sign of the Cross, while saying, "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen."

People:  Make the Orthodox Sign of the Cross, while saying, "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen."
